Removing failed prints v2.0

Postby Wdshea » Sun Apr 10, 2016 3:19 am

i forget who came up with exposing the entire build area to peel all failed pieces from the film, but that is the best tip yet for film longevity.

it gets the tweezers away from the main build area, and prevents damage, let alone makes life easier.

but i found that my resin seemed to be getting thicker, and i believe it was because of using this method. pushing the limits of the resin, therefore lots of fails.

without the build plate on the film, light is allowed to pass through a lot of resin in an uncontrolled manner. then you have to take the tray out to remove the cured resin.

i take the build plate and smash it against the film (with lift arm at full elevation). kind of slide it around and make sure it is down tight as possible. then expose entire build area for 20s, and then pick up one end of the build plate, as if one side was hinged against the film. i am able to remove the failed print with out removing the build tray (most of the time). talk about a time saver.

obviously if the fail if real big, this will not work, but I've removed chunks almost 2mm thick using this method.

He is just putting the build platform by itself into the vat. Pressing it down a little ant then projecting a square that fills up the grid for 20 sec.

Exactly, but you must remove the build platform and do this manually.

Don't home it, for obvious reasons... and if thats not obvious, well then some may have to learn the hard way. ;-)

Just would like to add that you shouldn't press the platform down too hard. Because if you have a small chunk of cured resin, pressing down too hard can damage the film, put a dent in it, or even puncture it in some instances. ;)

There was a guy who had a Facebook video that showed this milled aluminum tool that looked like a handle.

If you have a stuck print, you pour some new resin next to the stuck part, put the handle on the uncured resin and then expose it to UV light. When cured, you pull up on the handle and the stuck resin comes with it. Quite ingenious, so I will need to find that video to share.

Here is a shop in the Netherlands that sells them:

Pretty sure you could get some polished aluminum bar and have something similar without paying megabux for it. ;-)

expose the build area for almost a minute... sticks to the build plate everytime. only problem is you sometimes get a little trash in your tray.

i never strain and never have artifacts on my prints.
