Halo Split

This ring is giving me a hard time to print. The halo split in half on both rings (same print run). One of the prongs broke off during the run before that :evil: Any idea why is this happening?

Large flat areas are issues for all DLP-based printers. In the past suppliers always suggested rotating models to avoid this. I can recommend you rotate the model 5-6 degree in X or Y, build some new supports and re-print.

If I have a miss print I always, move to different location and re slice.

Check your model using netfabb. Sometimes the model looks good and should print fine, but there are areas that have issues. I'm thinking inside of the channel where there are prongs.

If everything is good, then like Rik said, you can try tilting the ring slightly. Don't tilt too much or you will need to add more supports because overhangs will be created in other areas.

I suppose what Cad jewel meant is that you rotate your ring and print it over .it is a good approach .though I believe in your case there must me something wrong with the integrity of your 3D file.
You can Always Email your file to the Moderator and have it checked. William

I printed a similar ring yesterday that used 1mm melee stones instead of 2mm and it printed fine. It did have side stones on the halo though so it wasn't flat like this one. I used the mesh repair tool in RG today and it said the model was good to go. I just checked it with netfabb and a bunch of oranges lit up *facepalm* Thanks for the help guys.. I'll remember to tilt from now on for flat models and ALWAYS use netfabb!

What Application are you modeling in?

Normally in Gemvision Matrix their meshing tool does a good job of preventing these kind of issues

Please don't rely on the gemvision stuff to check the meshes. Use netfabb.

I'm either using Rhino (mostly) or RhinoGold. Yeah, I made the mistake once of using the mesh checker in Rhino and it missed all those nice boobietraps. I ran the STL again in netfabb and it fixed a bunch of problems. With the exception of one area, all the bad spots were in the supports themselves. I used RhinoGold's support feature.

Edit: BTW, I reprinted the model with two different vesions. One was tilted and the other wasn't with the same support structure. The non-tilted model had the entire halo hacked off this time lol but the tilted model printed perfect. Thanks for the help!

I haven't run into this issue for ages. The factors I always take into account are when I finish 3d , check for consistency and printing strategy . fast printing and best result.you need to be more attentive specially when you have letters,ornaments or areas like gallery .generally hard to finish .I always Boolean difference my custom supports
It is always prudent to inspect than having to print over. William.
