[SOLVED] Print Failures

Postby St0rmykev » Tue Feb 23, 2016 7:22 pm

Hey guys! Just recently purchased the Solus and it has been running great..until I got to printing this job. The picture attached was my 2nd attempt at growing these pieces after the first attempt failed. I noticed after the first failure, it did leave a pretty good dent in the film, so before I ran it a 2nd time, I replaced the film. I've also attached a picture of how the models were supported and oriented for this build. Could this be something to do with my choice for the support structure and/or orientation? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Kevin,

Did I just talk to you on the phone? I believe your full rgb setting was kicked back to default by windows 10?

Yeah it was me you talked with. We ran the machine right after I got off the phone with you with the same parts and while they did better they still failed to grow. I have attached a picture showing what the failure looked like coming off the machine.

Did you replace the film according to the video?
Make sure the film is sitting flush on the quarts. Don't overtighten the tank.

Have you tried printing the sample file? https://www.dropbox.com/s/3wwkwyewoyfnq ... 2.zip?dl=0
There might be something wrong with your files. Have you checked them in Netfabb?

Yes I replaced the film according to the YouTube videos on the forum. I have the magic's software on my PC at work so I ran both files through it and both checked out fine. I installed Netfabb and checked them just in case and both files checked out fine. I also went ahead this morning and re calibrated everything based on the forum videos, and I will run the sample file and see what comes out.

I getting the same thing all of a sudden. I was printing at 42x and went back to 25. There seems to be one slice that is failing and causing the rest to also fail. I did get two good prints today but 2 fails. On the one ring it looks like it failed where my designs changes from solid shank to stone sections. So I'm thinking a design issue or support issue.
Even though it looks like it printed the side of arrow, if I push on that side it will just fall off.

Try increasing the exposure a little to 2900 (for 25xy) or try slicing at 25 microns (0.025) with the existing exposure settings. The green might be too good at blocking the light.

Let me ask a question. It might sound a little weird but do any of you guys have your printer within 4ft of your ultrasonic? When I originally set mine up close to the ultrasonic I had some weird stuff going on with my printer. When I moved it across the room no issues. Its just a theory that might be worth exploring. Mark

I've had a heating fan affect the printer when it was in the same room. Moved it out and it was fine. I'm guessing some equipment may affect the printer if it's too close.

Just to update, after re-calibrating everything yesterday. I was able to get the sample file to print with no problem. I also went ahead and took one of the problem files that kept failing and re-meshed it and re-joined it(Even though I could find nothing wrong with the old mesh) and it also printed just fine without a problem. I don't know if this is common or means that the film is too tight but on the last two grows I've done, I've been heading a small popping noise coming from the vat when the machine raises up for a new layer. It only make this noise for probably the first 2-3 layers of the model then it goes away. The two prints didn't seem affected by this at all but wanted to mention it on here in case this is a sign that the film could be a little too tight.
