I'm disapointed With Solus

Postby kmlsoni » Tue Apr 04, 2017 4:49 pm

I disappointed with Solus even though the surface quality is excellent but my headache is flat design as attached image show that even after placing huge support it is unsuccessful. I'm waiting for your valuable helpful comment. :(

Is that the cherry resin? That piece might need more of an angle. Also are you using the default exposure times for the cherry? I see some signs of underexposure. You might need to bump up the exposure slightly.

On complex pieces like that (with lots of holes that create overhangs at the corners), I suggest using manual supports and carefully supporting all those overhangs first, then going in and reinforcing the model a little with more supports to make sure it doesn't flex during printing. Some soft resins, like the cherry, like to flex during printing, which can cause issues.

Yes, It is the cherry resin and I'm using default exposure time. How much exposure time needs to bump up? I placed all those support manually.

I would bump it up by 0.2 seconds. Also if you can send me that scene file and I'll take a look at the supports.

To be frank I have experienced similar outcomes in I'd say the growing problem affects 1 in every 20 of my prints, but I am still happy with my solus. At one point I was printing 3 identical rings side by side knowing two might fail to grow. As I read the forums and educated myself I learned how to try to fix that problem.

As mongerdesigns said you may need to add to the exposure time for each layer. This may be due to the bulb losing its strength over time.
I have been using B9 Green and mix the bottle before pouring. If there is leftover resin, I will keep it in the VAT overnight and print with the same resin the next day with no problems (I use the provided spatula to stir the resin in VAT).
Your old resin, if exposed to light for a period of time, may lose some of its photosensitive properties so I put them in a dark storage room with no sunlight. (I'm no expert but I thought better be safe than sorry)

If others see a fault in my ways, or deem something unnecessary do let me know but this is how far I got on my own :D

The learning curve on the Solus is very minimal compare to other printers ( I have worked with many, and seen Hell). We all have gone through that dark tunnel. after reflection and Time ,I can state that I was the cause to all my print failures when it comes to the Solus.

Thanks for Your suggestion. However, I successfully print that design without increasing exposure time. Can I increase exposure time from default 3.8second to 4second for my next print. :)

Thanks for your advice. The Projector is new and used only 50hours.

I have never been a big fan of the cherry resin. The particulates seem to settle to fast for my liking. The emerald seems much more forgiving in both printing and casting.

Those prints are great! Still disappointed in the Solus? :)

As you can see everything has a learning curve, and making statements like that is not helping anyone. We don't block or remove posts on this forum unlike the other guys, so we rely on our customers to be understanding and patient and not to jump to conclusions. Because with some care and patience, anyone can print incredible prints with the Solus that make other printers jealous.
