grid fit(solved) Print settings off?

Postby Biceps » Wed Apr 19, 2017 3:17 pm

Hello, I've had this printer for over a year now and have only had a handful of successful prints out of a kg of b9 cherry. So, after having put it aside for the last 6 months, I'm trying again from scratch since I'm hopeful I've made some simple mistake somewhere. Going back to calibration, I'm unable to get the grid(CW show calibration grid-I'll get contour as soon as I can get more success with this printer) to fit on the quartz for the 80x45. I've had this since the beginning but am only now thinking that this may have been the main cause of previous print failures even though I've always adjusted by moving item towards bottom of print bed.

I'm using the infocus in8606hd. The desk top that my setup is on is leveled. The only way I'm able to get the grid(80x45) to fit is by going through a whole lot of shenanigans to unlevel the printer/projector.

Top photo is what I get when I try to size it to 80x45. Bottom is just fitted to quartz.

Any ideas?

I loosened the screws on the mount and adjust the feet on the projector a little more and that mostly solves it. I have full width of 80 but only 44.4 in height.

Check your aspect ratio in the graphics card options. You should be getting 80x45

Thank you. I had it set to full screen instead of aspect ratio. It(nvidia) keeps reverting back to full screen after trying to apply settings though. I'll come back to that part again after this:

Ok, so I'm printing again. There is a popping noise on the first 2 layers when lifting that wasn't there before. Only changes are resin(cherry>makerjuiceSF) and fresh film.

Here's the results:

top is most recent. I had to bump up the exposure to 5800.
Bottom one had exposure of 3800. On both, the cross section at the walls bow inward a little. I'm assuming that increasing exposure time is not the proper solution...

I suggest updating to the Contour software. I think those exposure times are way too high for the cherry resin.

so I have contour now, there isn't any profile for makerjuice sf, which is what I'm using now. I should have been clearer. I'm not seeing anything in this program that would help with my setup problems.(This is fine since i was going to get it eventually assuming I can get this thing printing like it is supposed to)

Any thoughts on what the issue with my print settings could be? I had to increase exposure time to 5800 just to get the upper result. Exposure time at 3800 gave me the lower result. Other than ends of it not printing(lower result with 3800 exp time), you can see the edges being rounded on the corners, especially the boxes on top of the piece. Since increasing exposure shouldn't have been necessary, what else could account for the failure? My projector may have around 60 hours on it already so I'm assuming it's not losing power.

Also, should I be concerned with the popping sound I'm suddenly now hearing on the first 2 layers?
Only difference now is that I'm now using makerjuice SF instead of B9 Cherry and I changed the film on the vat.

Additional information: I saw mentioned in the forum that makerjuice required the uv filter be put back into the projector. I couldn't get anything to print once I did so current prints are without the filter.

We no longer provide any support for the MJ resins, however you are free to setup your own profile for it.

The SF resin cures very fast (at least back when we were testing it), so if you can't get anything to cure with the UV filter in, it may mean that they have modified the formula.

MakerJuice SF is a little more difficult to pull off the film, so that probably explains the popping noise.
