You can test this easily. Just print the ring again, but flip the tank around. See if the slump will be on the other side of the ring now. If it is, then it's a film issue. If it's still on the same side, then I'm hoping it's not a projector issue.

Re: Rings Printing Oblong/Ovoid
Ok, yesterday I made a mark on the vat to distinguish one side from the other. I grew the exact same scene with that side of the vat facing front (the projector), then grew the scene with the vat turned 180 degrees with the marked side facing the back (away from the projector).
In both cases, the distortion (the slumped side of the ring) was to the front (the projector side). In other words, the distortion was the same regardless of the orientation of the vat.
What else could cause this distortion?
I realize that the distortion I'm talking about isn't showing up very clearly in my photos I can only assume this has something to do with the perspective of a camera lens and the perspective of the eye, so thanks to the wonders of photoshop I created this image in which I've exaggerated the distortion of the photo on the right to show you what the rings look like in person. They aren't usable as they are.

Re: [SOLVED] Rings Printing Oblong/Ovoid
Emil and I exchanged a few messages yesterday. In the end, the problem turned out to be film tension, though oddly it was somehow equally loose in both directions. I changed the film again and without making any other changes, the rings I grew after it turned out perfectly.
In the image below, the left ring was grown with a too-loose film, and the ring on the right is grown with, apparently, a film with proper tension.
I have ordered the film spacing tool, and I hope that it will help me get more consistent results in the future.
