Solus arrived!

Postby GAR62 » Mon Nov 02, 2015 9:34 pm

Just received my new printer, have the in-focus projector and can't wait to get started. I've been having problems with vat failures(2) on my B9. They're sending me two new ones that they've made some changes on. In the meantime I want to get my Solus up and running. Two Questions:
#1 My Solus is in close proximity to my B9. Can I use Its dedicated Asus Intel i3 laptop to run both printers?
#2 If question # 1 is not possible what is the minimum dedicated laptop/notebook needed to run the Solus?
Here's some pics

Hi. Congrats! Can't wait to see some of your prints.

To answer your questions.

#1. Not at the same time. But you can use the same computer.
#2. We recommend a minimum a Intel i3, with 4gb or ram, and at least an Intel Graphics 4000 or higher.

If you need help setting up and getting going, contact me.

Would I set up the Solus as an alternate monitor- unplug the B9 USB and plug in the Solus USB and select the Solus monitor? My Asus has an i3 and 4 GB ram. The Graphics must be adequate because it works fine with the B9. Thanks-------Gary

You should be ok with both plunged in. I would be sure the one I'm not using is turned off. You connect the the Solus through CW. Your laptop will see the projector as another display which need to be set up correctly. This may be a problem where you have to dis-connect the B9 projector. Unless you have two HDMI ports on the laptop. Just guessing here. I don't have a B9. Good luck

Don't think so. Be a pain to undo it from B9. Different setups.

That makes a lot of sense . With a Solus you have no use of a B9 anymore.

Since my B9 Asus notebook only has one HDMI port I decided to bite the bullet and get another notebook to run the Solus. My B9 notebook has an i3 chip and 4GB ram which I paid $330.00. It was an open box deal from Newegg. I really didn't want to pay that much again and noticed the refurbished tab on the Newegg website. I was able to find this:
DELL B Grade Laptop e6420 Intel Core i5 2520M (2.50 GHz) 4 GB Memory 250 GB HDD 14.0" screen with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit with an HDMI port. It's on the way and cost is $187.89 total delivered. Now I'll be able to put the Solus anywhere I want.

I hope it works.

If you read the FAQ on our website, we recommend intel 4000 graphics or higher for laptops
http://www.junction3d.com/frequently-asked-questions/

And that laptop it seems has the Intel HD Graphics 3000.

Can you return it?

We recommend this one or at least equivalent to it. Most important factor being that it's Intel Graphics 4000 or higher.

another good one is this

No, I didn't see that anywhere in FAQ and yes I can return it. I checked on my Asus D550CA running the B9 and it has the Intel HD 4000. This info wasn't clear and slipped by me. I'll order another Asus or one of the recommended ones. I checked on a card upgrade and it costs more than I paid for the laptop. Oh well, back to the drawing board.
