Filter System for Room?

Postby Shinlocke » Sat Mar 24, 2018 9:01 pm

I have a couple printers that have their own enclosures for ABS printing. However now the workshop has DLP and SLA resin printers, we also have the alcohol fumes when cleaning prints and occasional painted primed miniatures drying in the room. The door tends to stay closed so the Dog doesn't get into the room and investigate. We can't open windows due to not wanting to let UV light into the room.

I don't want to have to constantly be wearing masks to be in the room. I've been looking at adding an air purifier for the square footage with a HEPA as well as Carbon filter for smell and particles. Does anyone have any suggestions for filtration?

I have been thinking something like this or this.

Not sure if air purifier is the way to go. They are usually designed to trap smoke, dust, and allergens.

You should look into fume extractors instead. The activated carbon filter sucks in any toxic fumes. You need to put it close to your source(s) of fumes though.

It does depend on the air purifier. Decent ones usually have 3 filters, a Pre-Filter which is for bacteria, pet dander, mold, fungus, larger particles. Then you have a HEPA filter that deals with dust, mites, large particles, pollen, and toxins. Then you have the Activated Carbon filter which is used for odors and gases. The typical purifier has an intake which sucks in room air, goes through the filters and then pushes out clean air the other side. You have a full on used to purge and prep a room, then you can have activated every hour or 8 times a day, etc.

At least that is what I've found research wise but I'm not an expert. I have just been comparing it to how we have enclosures designed for ABS printing, normally need a filter that is both HEPA and Carbon filter which takes care of the smell and toxins.
