Custom Mini PC for CW and Solus

Postby Joetrfj » Thu Feb 11, 2016 3:18 pm

Hi Guys

I'm think of building a mini PC just for the printer. Can someone recommend an amount of RAM and processor/graphics I should use. I have noticed that CW is a bit juicy on the CPU (lags a lot on an i3) and 4GBs of RAM doesn't seem to be enough either.

Any suggestions?

Here are the minimum reqs:
Intel i3, 4gb Ram, Intel HD Graphics 4000 or higher.

Obviously more is better:
Intel i7, 8gb Ram, Nvidia Geforce 730 or higher.

Would you recommend Nvidia over intel?

On a laptop, recommend Intel. On a desktop, Nvidia.

Because on Laptops the nvidia setup is usually not so great. Usually a hybrid system with Intel running 2d graphics and Nvidia running 3d graphics. Can cause issues. Go with Intel only. Cheaper and less problematic.

On the desktop, you can get a dedicated Nvidia graphics card.

What hardware configuration do you use?

I use a Lenovo g50-80 laptop. Intel i7, 6gb ram, Intel 5500 graphics. I got it on sale for $500.

Re: Integrated graphics card

Hello there

I'm on the hunt for a suitable laptop, found many with Intel HD graphics 4000 but they are all integrated. Do they have to be dedicated Garaphics cards.

Many thanks

No. It doesn't have to be a dedicated graphics card. The integrated Intel HD graphics card is good enough. The reason it needs to be version 4000 or higher, is so that it accepts the latest driver updates for the graphics card. The older versions do not accept the new drivers.

Here are some examples of laptops that we recommend.

Basic model with Intel i3. Minimum recommended specs. Has windows 8 (recommended)

Middle of the road model with Intel i5. Has windows 10, which is not ideal (can have some bugs).

Higher end with Intel i7 and lots of memory. Has windows 8 (recommended)
