film sticking to quartz

Postby robin » Tue Aug 30, 2016 1:46 pm

Hey guys,

I installed a new film two weeks ago and it's been sticking to the quartz area. Can I clean the quartz with a pec-pad and alcohol? What about the bottom of the film?

Edited: Posting video after pinpointing the issue.

Yes cleaning the quartz and the bottom of the film with alcohol and pec-pad is a good idea, in case some residue got there that can make the film stick.

That "kinda" helped. I cleaned the film and quartz then placed it in place and there was no sticking, lifted it and placed again and boom, sticking again (but slighter than before).

Second test

I cleaned the quartz, pulled out a new film (without installing it in the vat) and placed it on the quartz = No sticking.

Third Test

I cleaned the new film with alcohol and a pec-pad. I placed it on the quartz = sticking

I took it off the quartz and blowed on the film and placed it again on the quartz= no sticking!

SO, is it humidity? It's about 70% around here. If so, how can I fix this? It's causing most of prints to fail. I print multiple pieces hoping for one to pass clean.

Does your film stick a bit like it does in my video?

P.S. I'm using new pec-pads for each run.. never used the same pad twice.

My last fail wast the too tight film. Try loose so much as possible. Once I printed without fastening screws...with good result.

I know humidity and heat can have a lot to do with it. I'm running my AC on 72f and it's dry here (high desert area) and I rarely have issues with sticking.

Well, I did follow the video when I replaced my film. Truth be told, this is the tightest I've ever had it at but it seems heat/humidity has more to do with it. We've been getting cool temps lately like high 75f and low of 60ish at night but I'll run the AC tomorrow hopefully that'll help.
