Broke my Solus :-(

Postby KennyB » Tue Sep 22, 2015 7:39 pm

Well, I broke my Solus on my second print ever. Leave it to me to have the worst luck in the world, I swear.

1/3 of the way through, I noticed that the print wasn't attached, so I hit pause on Creative Workshop.

Then I figured, I'd hit the "Z+" button to move the build plate up enough to clean the vat and see what went wrong.

I obviously hit the "Z home" button right above it (why, oh why must that button be so close  ).

You can see where this story is going. I heard a "snap" and now my new machine has a broken quartz (?) and scratched up film. It also looks like the mirror has some broken quartz on it so I know the whole machine will have to come apart.

Is this something I can repair myself or do I need to send it to Reify? Please advise as I'm heartbroken :)

Here I am literally sick to my stomach over this thinking I have to tell my boss that I ruined the new printer and I need another $2,300 and you're like, "no biggie".

Top notch service, I say! I am so grateful.

Thanks again!

Ken

Don't feel bad. I did the same thing Sunday. Stopped a print and press the mouse button while going to the Up button and it hit the fast down button instead.

Have to give a BIG thumbs up to the Guys.

I broke mine the same way, I cut a piece of Glass from a Picture frame that has 2mm thick glass and got back to work until the new Quartz plate arrives. Thats what I did, Make sure you round the the top corners.
Use double sided tape to attach it. Yes I had to take it apart and clean the resin out of it as well. Take you time and pay attention so you dont pull the wires off the circuit board before you see where they go. They unplug so there is no damage just you need to know which wire goes where.

Sounds like this panel needs some Q & A

This button will home the Machine is this what you want to do Yes /No

As much as a pain they are it helps fool proof operation.

Gemvision (revo ) is a prime example.

We all use machines thinking of other things to be done so a check is welcome.

My thoughts

If I had a larger screen it would help. I am using a 15in laptop to slice and run the printer. So it make things a little smaller than a 17in or bigger screen.

Printer is back up and running.

I finally printed my first real piece for an actual customer, now just have to see if I can cast it :-)

I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Emil (Monger) for all his help. If you ever find yourself in Maine, the beer and lobsters are on me even though lobsters are disgusting bottom feeders, but I digress.

He connected to my computer remotely yesterday and fixed the issue I had that created the failed print that resulted in my broken quartz.

He also pointed out how not to mess it up again (read the manual, especially the red print, lol)!

Anyway, if there is anyone reading this who may be considering purchasing a Solus but are worried they may need a little hand holding to get it running, just do it. The support I've received has been the best ever.
