Supports and Layer Thickness Questions

Postby drewbacca » Wed Aug 17, 2016 7:44 am

Hello everyone,

I just installed Contour and I'm loving it. I do have a few questions that someone may be able to help me with.

Has anyone used 3DM-Cast? And what exposure settings etc do you use?
How do I go lower in the layer thickness as I am seeing options of 20,25,30 on some resins?
Can I add supports in Contour or do I have to add them in CW, or MeshMixer and then import the STL into Contour?

I do appreciate any help since I am new to DLP printing,
Andrew

One important thing you have to bear in mind .the more you go down in layers the more supports you need to add.
If you are new to the Solus which is a pretty straightforward printer.you have a large array of pre-set resins you can play with, and than you will surely learn in the process.in other words less job failures. Good Luck

You have to add your supports before bringing into Contour. For now at least.

I see, I'm sure you guys are working diligently on added supports feature. I hope to see it implemented soon for convenience sake.

Thanks,
Andrew

I was just in Contour looking for that "Add Supports" button, lol. You guys draw supports with the model and import all that into Contour? That will work, so that's what I'm going to do.

I build my own supports in Matrix. Some use the B9 software. There are some other programs out there, some are pricey. It's also a good idea to run the model through a mesh repair tool. Then preview the slice profile to see if there are any areas of your model that you missed.

I do have my B9s and supplied software and will give that a go. I use netfabb free version to inspect and fix my stl. It's simple, fast, gets the job done and it's priced right :)

Just don't install the b9 software on the same machine that runs the Solus.

During the install it asks to install the arduino drivers and the firmware on your computer. May cause issues. You can say no, but it's easy to overlook it and say yes.
