B9 Yellow Castable Resin Testing

Postby mongerdesigns » Tue Dec 29, 2015 11:56 pm

I got some b9 yellow resin from a generous Solus owner (thanks Jack) and today began testing it. I will post my results in this thread along with some photos. If it's successful, we will release a resin profile that can be loaded into CW.

Findings so far:
1. It's a very sticky resin. Clings to the film. This explains why some people had issues with thin supports and details breaking off. I think I have found a way around it.
2. It offers very high resolution, which is great. Very sharp corners.
3. It's easy to clean. Just rinse in alcohol and then into ultrasonic for a few min.

I will edit this post and add more info as I go. Please be patient and don't ask for settings before I'm done testing.

Update: January 4, 2016
Here are the first prints I did with the b9 yellow resin. To get the profile, click here --> viewtopic.php?f=13&t=128

Yellow resin casted. Tumbled only. No polishing. The results are not bad considering the caster is not used to casting this resin. Plasticast investment was used with the regular 12 hour burnout.

Hope you find a solution to the sticking problem ... was quite annoying because until that happened the details and all seemed much sharper and the prints were faster ...

I ordered my Solus and now I must ordering resins, I want to order 2 resin, So I think about cherry and yellow, if possible can you test mix of yellow and cherry maybe it's better result for solus. (solved sticking to film, more pigment for better show of detail and better casting vs cherry)
I waiting for your results before my ordering, if you find yellow is useless then I should order cherry and green or 2cherry!
Thanks for your kindness :))

I believe I have solved the sticking problem. By solving I mean made adjustments so it's not an issue. It still sound a little scary when you watch the print but the prints are coming out perfect.

I can't speak for the casting (haven't tested that yet) but I can tell you that the Yellow prints just fine on the Solus now.

I printed thin rings, thick rings, detailed rings, and fragile stuff. I will try to post some photos tomorrow or if not then in the New Year.

Also will post the new resin profile here to be downloaded, once I also test it at the 42xy setting.

Sweet thanks for your efforts

... Assume you had to work at changing something other than exposure?

If you managed to get yellow working for 25 at least could you post the settings ... want to see if yellow casts well enough to even be worth all the trouble

Thanks

Think its the sound ... when i tried it it really stuck to the film and caused it to snap pretty loudly
