Refilling resin

Postby cruew » Mon Jan 23, 2017 1:40 am

Hello everyone!

I'm a brand new owner of the solus printer and couldn't be more excited to be apart of the community :)

If anyone can help me out with a question I have today regarding refilling the resin tank that would be awesome

I have printed a couple of sample rings and noticed that the tank is low in resin and was wondering what the best method of refilling it would be?

Would I add new resin to the already existing resin in the tank? Or would it be best to remove the existing resin and add new one?

Thank you!!

I have a large shot glass that I marked a line on for the recommended amount of resin. You can use the resin in the vat, would be very wasteful and expensive to throw it out. Uncured resin is a hazardous waste material. It must be cured before you throw it away. Just strain it to remove any broken off cured resin into the glass. Shake up the bottle of resin then add to the glass to the full line. Pour into vat and your ready to go. As you get better at seeing how much is in the vat with a full amount, then you could just add new resin. I use a syringe. You should strain your resin if you have a failed print. Also look at the film to be sure there is no cured resign sticking to it. This will cause failed prints. Get a Teflon spatula to stir the resin in the vat. you should do this before printing for the day. If I am going to print the next day I just leave the resin in the vat on the printer. I cover it up so light doesn't stray in.

Just in case. Some greats videos created by Jordi :

I haven't used my solus for a long time, and was wondering how to manage a very large print? How do I know when I must pause the solus to refill the VAT?

If your using Contour, I think you would be fine pausing the printer. It's suppose to pick up where it left off. That would have to be one big print to use most of the resin.

You mean with the maximum of 40ml, I don't have to be concern about the resin during a big print. If it's enough in any case this is better than that I thought.
