Is the B9 Cherry "reliable" at straight casting, no mold making first? If not, I really need a recommendation of a resin that can do straight casting. And yeah, seriously release the Solus resin already!

Ok, I have not tried vacuuming

I first issue with B9 resin is that is not support from the creator? I need to go to the forum to find out how to use it. And then there’s no real consensus of how to cast it. I understand that it is resin and not wax, but the ash problem it is a real problem and that a user can’t get consistently clean castings.

When I was sitting on the sidelines looked to buy a printer, I was reading the forums and was disappointed with BP creator, no support, instructions, or we are trying to improve resin. And then Monster posted that they were working as to new resin, for the Solus and that they had more of a concern about the resin then B9.

For someone that cast as hundreds of pieces a week, to devote time to one oven to have a bad casting is a waste of time, is it possible to get a clean wax yes, is it consistent no.

I have found making a mold from the resin is just easier.

Monster? Damn that's even better than Monger. Wish I came up with that.

I understand your concern about consistent castings. That's why developing and testing castable resins takes time. We want to make sure people (our testers) are happy with it and are getting constantly good results.

Emil, We're all looking forward to the new resin. You know there's a huge line of people waiting for it!

@EddyF, thanks for the info. I've got a good feeling about the Solus resin though. It should be the go-to resin when it comes out unless it's insanely priced and then I'll turn into the "monster"

@robin With this resin we went with the best materials and cleanest burnout we can get. Castable resin development is very expensive, therefore it's hard for us to match the prices of the cherry resin for example.

However it should cast better (or at least just as good) but more importantly it's easier to print with, needs less supports. It has very low shrinkage, and burns out ash free.

So even if it's a little more expensive, I think it will be worth it.

This is why we don't restrict resins or settings, so people will have a choice and use whatever they want.

That's awesome, Emil. I don't want to seem pushy as this has been asked many times already but when do you think it'll be released? Are we talking weeks or months down the line? Btw, I'm not going to hold it against you.. just ballpark figures for a general idea, thats all.

Hopefully within the month. Don't hold it against me ;) Because after all delays happen during production and also the holidays are coming up.

Cool. It's sooner than I expected actually. It's gonna be slow after the holidays anyway. It would be nice to have before Valentines tho.

Eddy

The B9 forum has a ton of info on it about the cherry resin. Plus as you know a lot of guy's/gal's on 3Dcad forum using it also. I know a guy on Gemvision forum that cast every day using cherry and having fantastic results. He is using the B9 printer.
I have only cast a few items, but they came out great. They were mostly pendants. I used regular satin cast and held 1350 degrees for 3 hours. Vacuumed the flask before casting. I believe heavy items might need 1400-1450 degrees. This is pushing the limit of Satincast. Most are using a stronger investment with no problems.
