How to determine amount of gold per wax model?

Postby cruew » Fri Mar 16, 2018 10:05 pm

Hello everyone!

I was wondering if it's possible to determine the amount of gold used with just the wax model?

I'm looking to figure out the rough cost of a ring before i send it off for casting

Thank you in advance!!

For Wax Weigh the wax model in QZ. Multiply it by 13.07 for 14k yellow gold 12.61 for 14k white 15.58 for 18k 10.40 for silver 21.45 for Platinum. Those are the specific gravitates of each metal. Resins are a little different. But not by much. Keep in mind if your are not doing the casting, they will charge you for the spru that's left on the ring after casting. Depending on your cad program, there are Macros (programs) out there that can figure this.

Since resin has a higher S.G. than wax, I divide the weight of the resin by 1.1, then multiply the result per the specific metal's S.G.
